First visit

I’ve taken 2 urine pregnancy test which shows positive and went to my clinic for a referral. The doctor did not do any confirmation test and my gynae visit is scheduled only on 15th Oct (~11 weeks). But I’ve read that the first visit would usually be around 6-8 weeks…. Is this an acceptable practice? Should I seek for 2nd consult? When did you have your first scan/ pregnancy confirmation done?

Hm..a tad odd that the doctor didnt do anything to confirm your pregnancy and just took your word for it. I went via polyclinic and my first appt was about 7 /8 weeks, and the polyclinic did a urine test first to confirm my pregnancy. This is for my second pregnancy. For my first pregnancy, I booked an appt directly with NUH (private prices, didnt go through polyclinic), and during the first visit (about 7 or 8 weeks also), the doctor did a transvaginal scan to confirm pregnancy. Do start on your folic acid if you haven't done so, don't need to wait for appt to take it.

from my experience, after checking my pregnancy test, I went straight to the polyclinic to ask for a referral. they will check urine and blood test. first scan will be around 8 weeks to see the baby growth. I know some mom, got scheduled at 6 weeks but they still have to come back later since it might be too small. I suggest you head down to the polyclinic to double check again. if you are planning to go the private route you can definitely change along the way.

When I was preggo, i went poly! But doctor didn't do anything aside from giving referral letter. He said, if your kit says preggo means ure preggo 😆 anw, i suggest going for scan 9 weeks onwards! Cos by then can see and hear heartbeat! I went for my first pregnancy vvv early and they had to do transvaginal scan and even after that I still had to go another time. Congrats btw!!! Take care ☺️☺️☺️

true, but apparently, kit can still appear as positive as hcg hormones are still high, even when baby might no longer be growing (touchwood), so it’s still nerve wrecking tbh!

Walk in to a private clinic if you prefer to do an immediate scan. That’s what I did at 6 weeks. But what I can say is the scan won’t show much except for a gestational sac. It’s only at 12th week the gynae could check heartbeat and see a fetus. If your urine test shows positive then you are pregnant no worries.

Go to JB. https://sono-ultrasound.com/pregnancy-ultrasound-scans-at-sonobee-monitoring-your-babys-growth-with-care/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22793558120&gclid=Cj0KCQjww4TGBhCKARIsAFLXndRzCj-D92ALBXONLab0WiV1xuW3byZnhGp-t99JrCF0cWYEc4qLBoUaAh1TEALw_wcB I went here b4 the appt date, too excited.

Walk in to any private clinic to do your first scan at around 7 week before your gynae visit. You will be able to hear the heartbeat by 6-7week. Visiting any earlier you’ll only be able to see gestational sac.

I couldn't wait for polyclinic appt, and made an appt at thomson to have a scan. that was 6½weeks, heartbeat detected through vagina scan. you can do that if you can't wait hehe. and, congratulations!!!!

my first was on 8 weeks! i assume u can wait but it can be p nerve wrecking with no confirmation baby is dg healthy. perhaps call the hospital and ask for an earlier slot if possible?

Hi, i got referral from polyclinic and did first scan at kkh at 6 weeks but it was too small so they told me to go back again during 9-12 weeks for another scan!

Hi, usually at 5-6 weeks, you can only see the gestational sac. From week 7 onwards you might be able to see fetal pole with heartbeat. Take care and congrats!
