Why does my baby need to be rocked/nursed/patted/swung to sleep all the time and then wakes up as soon as I put him/her down? I have to replace the pacifier multiple times per night. How can I stop?

Hey Harshit, I completely feel you. I asked myself this question every single time I am awake at 2am in the morning when my boy will start crying as soon as I put him back down. What worked for our son are the two following scenarios: First scenario - I sit down next to his bed and sing or talk to him, give him some body contact, but don't pick him up. As soon as I sing, we would sit up or lie down and listen. This helps in 6 out of 10 times. He falls back to sleep and maybe wakes a few more times, but if so, I'll just sleep on a day bed next to him. Whenever he wakes again, I'll sing and that's it. He wouldn't even sit up again. But he knows, I am there. Second scenario - he's teething, sick, or has another reason that keeps him up. Then he definitely wants body contact. The only way to get him back to deep sleep is by letting him sleep on me. I'll sing as well and rock him. Next I would sit down on a rocking chair or bed, but keep rocking him. Take your time and invest better more than less minutes. Once you can feel he is breathing slower and all muscles are relaxed, either let him sleep aside you on the bed or put him back to bed.

It is happening because the baby has developed a habit of falling asleep only in the warmth of this his parent’s arms. It will take some time, but get him into the habit of sleeping on his own, while just lying by your side.

The reasons will depend on how old your little one is. Could be teething or even separation anxiety. It could also be sleep association.
